Setting Up Payment Methods

Before you send your first invoice, tell Stintly which payment methods you accept. This keeps your invoices accurate and gives clients clear instructions on how to pay you.

Go to Settings → Payment Methods to configure your accepted methods. Stintly supports all of the following:

  • Cash — For in-person payments collected on the job.
  • Check — Traditional paper checks mailed or handed to you.
  • Bank Transfer — Direct transfers between bank accounts.
  • Credit Card — Card payments processed through your preferred processor.
  • PayPal — Payments sent to your PayPal account.
  • Venmo — Peer-to-peer payments via the Venmo app.
  • Zelle — Instant bank-to-bank transfers using your phone number or email.
  • Cash App — Payments sent to your $Cashtag.
  • Stripe — Online card payments processed through Stripe.
  • ACH — Electronic bank-to-bank transfers via the ACH network, common for larger business payments.
  • Other — A catch-all for any payment method not listed above.

Enable the methods you actually use. Your clients will see these options displayed on every invoice you send.

Tip: If you use Venmo or Zelle, add your handle or registered phone number to your payment method settings. Stintly can include that detail on your invoices so clients can pay you without asking for it separately.

Recording Payments on Invoices

When a client pays, open the invoice in Stintly and tap Record Payment. You will see fields for the payment amount, date, and method. Stintly supports multiple payments per invoice, so partial payments are handled naturally.

For partial payments, enter the amount received. The invoice status updates to reflect how much has been paid and how much remains outstanding. The remaining balance stays visible on the invoice detail screen and in your follow-up queue.

Once the full amount is received, mark the invoice as Paid. Stintly records the final paid date and removes the invoice from your outstanding balance view. The payment history for that invoice remains accessible on the invoice record.

Automated Payment Reminders

Stintly can send payment reminders on your behalf so you do not have to manually track which invoices are overdue. Configure reminder timing in Settings → Reminders.

You can set reminders to go out before an invoice is due (as a courtesy heads-up), on the due date, and at intervals after the due date for invoices that remain unpaid. Stintly uses retry logic to space out follow-up reminders so clients receive a sequence of messages rather than a flood.

Each invoice tracks three key timestamps that drive reminder behavior:

  • Sent at — When the invoice was first sent to the client.
  • Reminder sent at — When the most recent reminder was dispatched.
  • Paid at — When the invoice was marked as fully paid (reminders stop automatically).

AI Reminder Tone Adjustment (Pro)

Not every client relationship is the same. A reminder to a longtime client who occasionally pays late should sound different from a first message to a new client who is significantly overdue.

With AI Reminder Tone Adjustment on the Pro plan, you can customize the tone of each payment reminder before it goes out. Options range from friendly and casual to professional and firm. Tap the tone selector on any reminder draft and the AI rewrites the message to match, while keeping all the invoice details accurate.

This feature uses the same on-device AI engine as the rest of Stintly — your client data stays on your device.

Following Up on Overdue Invoices

Stintly maintains a follow-up queue for all invoices past their due date. Open the Invoices tab and filter by Overdue to see the full list, sorted by how many days past due each invoice is.

For each overdue invoice you can:

  • Send a manual reminder using a pre-built email action template.
  • Use AI Tone Adjustment (Pro) to customize the message before sending.
  • Record a partial payment if the client has paid something but not the full balance.
  • View the full payment history to see what reminders have already been sent and when.

The days-overdue counter on each invoice updates daily so you can prioritize the invoices that need the most urgent attention.

Tip: Set up your preferred payment methods in Settings before you send your first invoice. Clients who receive clear payment instructions pay faster. Venmo and Zelle in particular tend to result in same-day payments because the transfer takes seconds.
